Statement of purpose

We aim to draw together anti-imperialist English teachers, with the help of any other English teaching anti-imperialists...

- To recognize that English is displacing and distorting, and in some cases wiping out languages of the Global South.
- To recognize that English teaching, whether in the Global South or in English speaking countries, can be and too often is a fundamental vehicle of cultural and linguistic imperialism.
- To organize as anti-imperialist English teachers, taking leadership from speakers of Global South languages under attack to raise awareness of these trends and work to reverse them; and develop a radical, critical pedagogy of teaching English; with a view to organize as anti-imperialist language teachers, to counter linguistic imperialism globally and advance the status of the languages under attack.
